Men’s Strength Guide: What Actually Works
Muscle comes from progressive training, enough protein and calories, and sleep. Creatine and protein powder have the best supplement evidence. Herbal men’s blends are a small extra at best, and hidden amounts make them hard to judge.
What builds muscle, in order of importance
Muscle is built by asking it to do more than it is used to, then feeding and resting it. Everything else, supplements included, is a small adjustment on top of those three things.
| Driver | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Progressive training | Adding reps, weight or sets over weeks |
| Protein | Roughly 1.6 g per kg of body weight a day |
| Total calories | Enough to support training |
| Sleep | 7–9 hours; growth hormone peaks in deep sleep |
| Consistency | Months, not weeks |
Training that works
Lift 2–4 times a week
Compound moves first: squat, hinge, push, pull.
Leave 1–3 reps in reserve
Hard sets, not grinding failure every time.
Track something
Weight, reps or sets. Progress you cannot see is hard to keep.
Keep some cardio
Good for the heart and for recovery between sessions.
Protein and food
Most men who are “not gaining” are simply not eating enough. Spread protein across the day: 25–40 g per meal is a practical target for most adults.
| Food | Roughly |
|---|---|
| Chicken breast, 150 g | 45 g protein |
| Greek yogurt, 200 g | 20 g protein |
| Three eggs | 18 g protein |
| Lentils, 1 cup cooked | 18 g protein |
| Whey scoop | 20–25 g protein |
Sleep and recovery
- Keep a fixed wake time, even on weekends.
- Stop caffeine by early afternoon.
- Alcohol wrecks deep sleep; treat it as a training cost.
- Loud snoring or waking up gasping can mean sleep apnea, which flattens energy and testosterone. Ask a doctor.
Tests worth asking for
If low drive, fatigue or lost muscle are the real problem, a blood test answers more than any blend. Ask about total and free testosterone (morning sample), a full blood count, ferritin, thyroid, vitamin D and HbA1c.
Where supplements fit
Creatine monohydrate, protein powder and, if you are low, vitamin D have the best evidence (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Dietary Supplements for Exercise and Athletic Performance”). Herbal men’s blends like SodaPeak sit far below those, especially when the amounts are not published.
